Outer Banks Fall Secret

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Not long ago the multitude of vacationers headed home from the Outer Banks of North Carolina at summers end. As the crisp fall air sets in, the Outer Banks turns back to its tranquil off season setting. Although the summer is officially over the waters remain warm and the fall nor’easters and waves are abound. Fisherman await the fall run of fish heading south from parts north.

The Outer Banks offer near summer weather well into fall but with the benefits of off season rates and less tourists to compete with at stores, shops, restaurants, boat charters, watersports, ecotourism areas and the like.

With the cooler climate setting in it is a great time to see some of the local sites not considered when the temperatures are in the 80s and above. In the north there’s Kitty Hawk, Roanoke (the location of the famous Lost Colony), the North Carolina Aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, Bodie Island and more.

Heading south there’s the Lighthouse at Cape Hatteras now moved inland from its former location abutting the Atlantic. The “Point” reachable by 4 wheel drive offers some of the best surf fishing on the east coast beaches. Many Anglers converge on the Outer Banks during later in fall near Thanksgiving through Christmas and New Years. Many an angler can recall landing the big ones on Christmas or New Years Day. Spending the Holidays with Family in one of the larger Oceanside or Oceanfront Homes cranking up the fireplace to take off the Ocean chill is a great treat that will be long remembered.

The Kids will stay occupied as most of these homes are equipped with game rooms, pool tables, TV’s, Home Theatre and much more. Some even have Hot tubs, Jacuzzis and some we have stayed in have built in saunas.

You’ll be surprised how economical this can be once you divide up the price by several families vacationing for the week. Many houses are available to choose from in the Northern Beaches such as Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills. In the South there’s Waves, Rodanthe, Avon, Frisco, Hatteras Village, and across the Ferry Ocracoke.
