Dying shark washes up on New York Gilgo beach

Eager to scrutinize a species with few samples available for study, researchers Tuesday sliced up the carcass of an enormous basking shark that washed up on Gilgo Beach in Babylon, with plans to send samples of the animal around the world.
The barely alive 26-foot shark startled beachgoers when it appeared on shore Tuesday.
It’s not clear why the shark died, but researchers speculated it was ill or had been injured.

GERMAN:
New York: Riesenhai lag auf Badestrand

    actually most …
actually most beached animals get there by chasing a prey smart enough to go up to the coastline, knowing that’s exactly what would happen to the shark if it chased the prey

people have pushed beached whales back into the water and those go on to live for a number of years more, doesn’t mean it was too weak.

Yeah.. If I was there I probably would have been crying, then yelled at people to attempt to help me push it out to sea ;_; I don’t know how you save beached animals but fuuuuck those dumb assholes!

Maybe at least got a big umm what are they called, construction workers use them to dig dirt up, but used that to try and burrow a way for it to get more water for the time being.. that is depressing to watch.

    This animal cannot …
This animal cannot be saved by any organization because it’s breeding patterns are unknown. They have to be able to live and breed without poaching/killing to block their path of life. With a large female specimen like this one it is a shame for it to be just used as a tourist attraction instead of pushed back into the water.

  13. matmatoo Says:

    they should have …
they should have shot it, poor thing was suffering and all the yanks could do is touch it like it was a toy!

i cant imagine how the poor could have felt. just having been washed up onto the shore, and these little kids just run up and touch it? i know pushing it back into the water would not help one bit, but they could at least put it out of its misery.

  16. slidecube Says:

    “Push it back into …
“Push it back into the water”? Are you serious. If it washed up on the beach in the first place it either means it was dead or too weak to fight the current. So, what do you think pushing it back (assuming you could in fact actually push a 19 ton shark against tide back into the water) would result in? You’re right, it would wash right back up on the beach.

    -.-; Wow seriously. …
-.-; Wow seriously. You only make yourself sound ignorant with your cussing MaxAcheson. Here’s a little fact. Whenever PETA gets involved in their little “Save the earth projects and animals,” the animals that aren’t all that endangered but are going down in size are then protected, but what happens in a few years? They get too big in population ( like the alligators in the Everglades, grew too much in populuation and they started eating people’s pets). -.-; Be ignorant. I have my own opinion.

  23. MaxAcheson Says:

    you stupid its …
you stupid its a filter feeder. Plus that “mindless eating machine” happens to be very endangered. So the least those stupid fat tourists could have done was give it a little push back in the ocean. “Look mommy i touched his head!! I’m also a little spoiled fat who probably can’t put my own clothes on.” Read up on your facts before you say ignorant like that dumbass.
